Potato researchers use the web to control late blight disease

A recent article in New Agriculturist On-line illustrates how web-based communication tools are proving successful against some plant diseases such as potato late blight.

To mobilise research efforts and share information on potato late blight, researchers at the International Potato Center (CIP) in Peru have set up the Global Initiative on Late Blight (GILB). The initiative brings together a worldwide network of researchers, technology developers and agricultural knowledge agents to exchange ideas and opinions, and facilitate communication and access to information. The GILB web site is an essential tool to make information available; the initiative also hosts online discussion fora and organises regular meetings and conferences. All GILB publications including proceedings from international meetings since 1996 are online.
