Where next for agricultural extension in Africa?

The November 2006 issue of New Agriculturalist brings together a very interesting set of 'points of view' on agricultural extension - generally - and especially in Africa.

Issues covered include: New roles and new potential for extension; challenges for extension; is decentralising extension services a good idea? Can extension services be demand led? Information and technology in extension; Market chains; and policy perspctives.

Just one of the perspectives shared: "Farmers are mostly after technology and information, not credit. They have the resources to work with, and they demand things they can get hold of." Barney Laseko, PADEP, Tanzania
