Wetlands satellite mapping scheme yielding first results

The European Space Agency's GlobWetland project, an initiative to develop a global wetland information service to help conservation efforts, is sponsoring research at 50 sites across the world. Globwetland utilizes satellite imagery to provide detailed views of individual wetlands and their surrounding catchments and how they are changing. Based on the user requirements, Globwetland core products include base maps, land use-land cover (LULC) maps and change detection maps.

GlobWetland involves sites across four continents: North and South America, Europe (including European Russia) and Africa - including Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.
