Bhutan: One laptop per child pilot project

Bhutan’s aspiration for an information technology (IT) and a knowledge-based society could receive a major boost if the “one laptop per child (OLPC) pilot project” succeeds.

The project will be piloted in twenty community schools before the government decides whether it will be worth pursuing, according to officials of the department of information and technology (DIT). Planning to bring the OLPC project to Bhutan began last year when the communications minister, Lyonpo Nandalal Rai, personally expressed to the ITU secretary general how Bhutan could benefit from such a project.
